Mechanical Testing

Many physical hazards exist in the manufacturing, transport, installation and end-use environments. Several test procedures are used to verify a product’s ability to withstand a 25 year product lifecycle. Some common tests for photovoltaic modules are listed below.

Hail Impact - Subjects device under test to hail impact using a 25mm diameter hail ball launched at 23 m/s (equivalent to terminal velocity). The equipment being tested must not pose a safety hazard post-test.

Steel Ball Impact - Subjects device under test to strikes using a 1” or 2” diameter steel ball. The equipment being tested must not pose a safety hazard post-test.
