Cube Utilization

In today’s global environment a majority of the products shipped will be unitized sometime during the transportation cycle.  Unitizing a load is the process of taking many smaller packages (or units) and placing them into a larger system for ease of transportation. A unitized load often consists of identical units or sizes to provide ease of packing and improved cube utilization.

Westpak utilizes specialized software to evaluate a unitized load for maximum efficiency. Typical loads are a wooden pallet, aircraft cargo / master pallet, shipping container, or truck body.

Oftentimes products are more robust than originally intended, resulting in wasteful over-packaging.  In these cases the cube efficiency of the unitized load is a byproduct of a sub-optimal package design; logistics costs quickly escalate. Westpak has the resources and experience needed to identify such opportunities, make recommendations, and provide clients with information that enables them to significantly reduce costs.
