What is:
UN Certification consists of subjecting packages containing dangerous (hazardous) goods to Performance Oriented Package (POP) testing. This is a certification that must be attained prior to shipping any packages containing dangerous goods in non-exempt quantities. The testing typically consists of a series or combination of drop, stacking, vibration and pressure testing. The exact packaging requirements and package test procedures are outlined in the 49-CFR.
FAQ’s:
Q: How do I know whether I need UN Certification or not?
A: You must look up the proper shipping name of the item being shipped in the Hazardous Materials Table listed in Paragraph 172.101of the 49-CFR to determine obtain the packaging instructions and determine if you need certification.
Q: What should I do once I determine I need certification?
A: Contact our DOT team at Westpak at dot@westpak.com or call (408) 224-1300 to obtain a proposal.
