Science & Engineering Festival Fun with Westpak

Science & Engineering Festival Fun with Westpak

At Westpak we love what we do – and we love to share it! This is our third year participating in Biocom Institute’s Science & Engineering Festival with a bit of fun for kids and adults. Westpak sponsored the Think, Drink, Science! night at Cutwater Spirits, enjoying science-inspired distillery tours. We networked with community members to learn more about the work they’re doing in the BioTech, Medical Device Manufacturing and Pharmaceutical industries. We spoke with them about what we do at Westpak and how our Engineers help them with their product and package testing. The event included a game of Cards Against the Humanity with an emphasis on science and engineering! We were grateful for the opportunity to speak with our constituents and enjoy learning more about what they do.

While we spoke to those already in the science & engineering industries, Westpak engaged with the next generation of life science leaders! We invited students from Thrive Public Schools to come to our facilities to learn more about what we do and how we help solve our customers’ problems. Our Engineers gave them a tour of our labs, explaining what our equipment does and what our clients are studying with their packaging and products. Westpak Engineers focused on a demonstration where the students designed and built their own boxes. These boxes were then placed in our compression machine to test how much weight the packages could withstand before buckling. The students were so excited to work together, to learn about engineering, and see us crush, drop, break and shake things up!

Westpak is grateful to the students, community members and organizations that support STEM education in San Diego. We love being a part of the science & engineering community and look forward to future leaders inspiring us with their work in STEM. Make sure to keep an eye out for next year’s Biocom calendar and events, coming to a location near you in San Diego county!
